Most of us like to have pets since they are very friendly and are found to be a good companion of us. Their charming actions and sweet reactions make us cherished and to be out of stress. American foxhound puppies are one such pet which are lovable, loyal and are very active. They were initially used for hunting purposes whose effective work of tracing the scent helped them to perform that work. These medium size dogs are little taller when compared to their cousins English foxhound. They can grow up to a height of 21 to 25 inches and they don’t weight much. Even many does not prefer them gaining weight much because the primary cause for which it is used for hunting purposes and not as domestic dogs.

American foxhound does not suffer with much genetic disorders but some of the following diseases are noticed in this species very rarely. They are platelets disease, deafness, hip dysphasia etc. Brisk walking and considerable amount of exercises will help foxhound not to gain weight much and keep them to be more active and healthy. The average life span os American foxhound is 10 to 12 years. Since enough space is required for giving training for those who are living in apartments this type of dogs are not preferred. The over coat of this foxhound is very hard and they don’t have lengthier hairs only a very short coat is noticed in this type. They are recognized as standard dogs by very associations like FCI, CKC, NZKC, AKC etc.
